Regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Peace Country Dental Clinic in Dawson Creek can help you prevent dental issues and keep your smile healthy.
Oral Examinations
During regular oral exams, ideally occurring twice a year, your dentist is given the opportunity to identify any oral health issues and make a plan to treat them accordingly.
Your dentist will take a close look at the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite during your exam, which may also include dental x-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures as necessary.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can impact any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. During your oral exam, your dentist will check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer that may be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
To help keep your smile healthy between dental appointments, make sure to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to help prevent and treat disease, either before or after your exam.
They will begin by using a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque from your teeth, followed by thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your child has a high risk of tooth decay, you may also be recommended a fluoride treatment by your dentist. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel and can prevent or reverse tooth decay.
